Riboflavin, or vitamin B2, is a yellow-orange water soluble compound that, among other things, acts as a precursor to certain basic coenzymes such as flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). In these coenzymes, riboflavin is covalently bound and acts as a catalyst for oxidation-reduction reactions.
